Butwal: Locust insects seen in Province 2 on Saturday have also appeared in Rupandehi of Province 5. The locusts seen in the Indian border area have invaded Rupandehi. Locusts were spotted in Butwal area of Rupandehi on Saturday afternoon.
Chief of the Agriculture Development Directorate of Province 5, Yam Narayan Devkota, said that the locusts were not sporadic. He said that after the locals informed him, they started looking at the insects and investigating whether all the insects were locusts. "So far, the group is not divided," he said. "Entomologists are investigating."
He said he would plan for prevention after ascertaining the number. "As soon as we get the news of insects, we have engaged in discussions and research with agronomists," he said. "We will take measures to prevent damage."
Locals had informed the state government officials and experts that locusts were seen in Kalikanagar, Goal Park, Sukhkhanagar, Ramnagar and other areas of Butwal at around one o'clock in the afternoon. The army had informed the entomologists that locusts had entered the army barracks in Ramnagar.
