Several Bollywood celebs such as Priyanka Chopra, Disha Patani and Sonam Kapoor have expressed their disgust against American police brutality and support for the Black Lives Matter movement, which has drawn severe flak from Kangana Ranaut
Kangana Ranaut is back to bashing her fellow Bollywood celebrities in
entertainment news, and this time, she's venting her ire on them for
coming out in support of the Black Lives matter movement despite several
of them having endorsed fairness products in the past, with some of
them continuing to do so. For the uninitiated, the latest episode of
police brutality against individuals of colour in the US, resulting in
the death of unarmed George Flyod, has sparked nationwide protests (some
justifiably violent in nature) in America and worldwide outrage over US
law enforcement wantonly killing coloured citizens since decades for no
reason at all.
Several Bollywood celebs such as Priyanka Chopra,
Disha Patani and Sonam Kapoor have also expressed their disgust against
American police brutality and support for the Black Lives Matter
movement, which has drawn severe flak from Kangana Ranaut.
In an interview to BBC, she said, “The Indian celebrities, they’ve been
endorsing all kinds of fairness products and today shamelessly they
stand and say black lives matter, I mean how dare they? Our industry
even shies away from casting darker actors for characters that are
supposed to be fair-skinned."
Questioning other Bollywood celebs
further, the actress asked, "Why is no one asking them about these
million-dollar deals that they’ve been doing with all kinds of fairness
products and how come suddenly all black lives matter? Racism is
deep-rooted, and when you have commercialised such events, that is the
lowest humanity can hit.”
Opening
up earlier on why she has never endorsed fairness products, Kangana
hade said, “My sister (Rangoli Chandel) is dusky, yet beautiful. If I go
ahead and be part of this campaign, then, in a way, I would be
insulting her. If I can’t do that to my sister, then how can I do it to
the entire nation?”
