The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) is preparing to sign aid agreements with over 50 percent of the total quake-affected households that were identified by the Post Disaster Need Assessment conducted last year after the April 25 earthquake.
The reconstruction body has finalised the name list of “real beneficiaries” after re-verifying details of damage caused to houses and infrastructure.
“After going through the details collected so far, we have finalised 319,912 households as the beneficiaries from 11 districts that were worst affected by the quake,” said NRA Spokesperson Ram Thapaliya.
He said that the authority will begin signing aid agreements in 11 districts from Sunday when the country marks the first anniversary of the earthquake. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to lay the foundation stone of two private houses in Sindhupalchok and Okhaldhunga on the day.
Authority officials said the final name list of beneficiaries will be made public in villages of 11 districts where detailed damaged assessments have been completed.
Based on agreements made with the World Bank and other donors in August, the Central Bureau of Statistics had begun survey of damaged houses and infrastructure from January. So far, the CBS has surveyed over 643,000 houses in 11 districts. Survey is yet to begin in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.
The number of earthquake victims was estimated to be half a million when details were collected while preparing the PDNA. The number, however, increased to 770,000 when the government announced various relief packages and subsidised loans for quake victims.
Thapaliya said earthquake victims will get the housing aid money after signing the grant agreements with the local bodies in the presence of NRA officials. The government has announced Rs 200,000 as housing aid and up to Rs 2,500,000 in subsidised loan to each household rendered homeless.
The aid distribution process, however, is cumbersome, and will be completed in three phases. The victims will get Rs 50,000 in the first phase, Rs 80,000 in the second and Rs 70,000 in the last phase, according to NRA’s grant procedure guidelines.
The money will be released through banking channel. “We are holding discussions with the association of private banks to distribute money,” said Thapaliya.
But according to sources, the NRA and banks are yet to reach an agreement for the purpose. It is learnt that banks have sought Rs 10,050 for releasing money to each household. The NRA is at sea as to how it is going to manage such a huge sum of money which it will require if it has to pay Rs 10,050 for distributing money to each household.

Apr 21, 2016- Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started the first ever vaccination drive for street dogs in the Capital.
Dubbed the Manumitra Campaign, it is aimed at managing the population of street dogs in Kathmandu by steralising and vaccinating them against rabies. Humane Society International (HSI) and Jane Godall Institute (JGI) are supporting the initiative.
The drive was formally launched from Singha Durbar, the country’s administrative hub, on Wednesday in an event at the presence of Livestock Development Minister Shanta Manavi. She praised the KMC’s initiative and said that it should be implemented across the country.
KMC will run the drive in all 35 wards of Kathmandu and it is expected to take three years. According to the census conducted by HSI, there are around 22,000 street dogs within the city limits of Kathmandu alone.
Andrew Rowan, the CEO of HSI, said Nepal became one of the few South Asian countries to launch the campaign. He noted that Bhutan and some cities in India have successfully implemented programmes to manage street dogs.
Threat of stray dogs to public safety and health has always been a challenge both in Kathmandu and many other parts of the country.
Annually, 30,000 anti-rabies vaccines are used on people bitten by dogs. In the Capital alone, nearly 2,000 people are bitten by dogs in a year.
KMC Chief and Executive Officer said the street dog management campaign was also linked with public health. He said Kathmandu will not be an ideal city unless it has vaccinated and managed its four-footed street dwellers.

Future of Fewa Lake at stake

One of the major tourist attractions of Pokhara is bearing the brunt of rapid urbanisation, pollution.
Apr 10, 2016- Fewa Lake of Pokhara, one of the major tourist attractions in the country, is bearing the brunt of rapid and uncontrolled urbanisation, with encroachment continuing unabated.
Despite a ban on construction of physical infrastructure within 65 metres from the edge of the water body, as many as 204 houses and huts have been erected around it recently, according to the Fewa Lake Conservation and Management Office (FLCMO).
Mahendra Godar, an engineer at the FLCMO, said even tourism entrepreneurs and government authorities have encroached upon the lake area and constructed tall buildings, threatening the lake’s beauty and existence.
The lake in 1957 covered around 10 square kilometres of area. But according to a study in 2007, the lake area has decreased to 4 square kilometres, thanks to unabated encroachment.
According to report presented by the Fewa Lake Land Investigation Committee, the lake shrunk to 5.5 square kilometres in 1976 and to 4.4 square kilometres in 1998.
“We cannot remove the structures that have been built around the lake without political assurance and help from all sectors,” said Godar.
Ram Bahadur Paudel, coordinator of civil society of Pokhara, alleged that the Pokhara Sub-metropolis failed take any concrete measure to protect the lake. As a result the major attraction of the Lake City is in dire straits, he said.
The average depth of the lake has also decreased to 8.6 metres.
Geologist Krishna KC said siltation has reduced both the area and the depth of the lake.
Around 50 rivulets, including Harpan and Aadherikhola, feed waters to the lake, and floods triggered by heavy rainfall during monsoon deposit clay, dirt and debris in the lake.
Pollution is yet another major problem facing the lake.
According to Devendra Bahadur Lamichhane, who has done his PhD on Fewa Lake, the water body is facing a huge crisis. “If the concerned agencies fail to come up with a solution soon, the city could lose the lake,” said Lamichhane.
The lake is not only a tourist attraction but also is a source of livelihood for many. As many as 91 fishermen’s and 724 boaters’ families depend on it. It is also home to a number of plants and animals and around 200 species of birds are found in the Fewa region.
Nar Bahadur Bogati, who earns a living by rowing boat, said he is worried that the lake is turning into a dumping site.

The lull in tourist arrivals to this ancient city, dubbed the walking museum by many, has stirred up as the flow of visitors increases
Apr 13, 2016- When Bhaktapur opened up for tourists after last April’s earthquake on June 12, only 20 tourists visited the ancient city in the first month, recalls Damodar Suwal, the local tourist information officer.
It was a difficult period for the residents who, still shaken by one of the worst calamities in the country’s history, were trying to regain normalcy in their life so much dependent on international tourists who drive the city’s economy.
It took over four months for the city’s tourism business to stir up from the lull, says Suwal.
“For the first time in the month of October, Bhaktapur was visited by 7,500 tourists and then from the next month the number of visitors started to grow,” said Suwal.
Around 60,000 tourists have visited Bhaktapur since the devastating earthquake and the authorities project that by the end of this fiscal year around 100,000 tourists would have visited the city.
According to the Tourist Information Centre of Bhaktapur, the number of visitors in the last two months of February and March registered an encouraging growth, 85,000 and 12,000 respectively.
“Of course, these figures do not compare with the previous years, but they are definitely encouraging indicators,” Suwal said. “The people are optimistic about the future of this city.”
Cultural expert Om Dhaubhadel is one of the optimists. “Some of the city’s iconic temples and monuments suffered great damages, but that has not hurt the culture of Bhaktapur,” he said.
Bhaktapur is currently celebrating the annual Bisket Jatra, a nine-day festival which is already attracting many tourists to the city. The city has already opened its doors to visitors.

How the innocent people in the country are being made Christian?

A video has been found which shows how the innocent people are moved to change their religion to Christianity by making them fool. In the video you can see that in 2009 those who went to treat the people in Surkhet are given treatment and said that the Jesus has cured them. The leaders from follower of Christianity claimed that they have not made people change their religion showing the temptation or with treachery. But in the video it can be clearly seen how the innocent people are being tried to give some psychological effects on their mentality about the Christianity.
In the video you can see how the announcer is asking a old women to speak that ‘Jesus has cures me’. As per the video the old lady seems to have problem of joint pain. Likewise addressing the mass they also claimed that the lady who had paralysis form last 18 years is getting cured now. For each and every individual’s health problem they claimed that lord Jesus has help them. They claimed that every person cured there are due to the power of Jesus.
This type of incident has being heard in the society for most of the time. After the country was state secular country every religion are respected and followed. But then our country is mostly populated with people following Hindu religion. Anyway with this democracy in the country people can choose any religion they want to follow and prosper in their life. But in the name of following there are already many incident that have came out in the media about the innocent people tempted and kept in the illusion in the name of religion.
In the name of religion there are institution opened in the name of raising the followers. People can choose the religion they want to follow in their will but not with any force. But in our country people are either forced or shown temptation or illusionary activities to blind the people , in order to make the people change their religion.

Art lovers were shocked by a ‘fallen angel’ installation which was unveiled in Beijing this week. The extremely realistic work was created by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu who are Chinese artists. By using materials such as human body fat in their work, the pair are known for blurring the lines between art and reality. As reported by People’s Daily Online, their latest piece has just been installed in China’s capital which is entitled ‘Angel’.
An old woman lying tangled on the ground is depicted in the disturbing sculpture. The woman also sports featherless wings on her back, to illustrate her fall from grace. The artists created the masterpiece using silica gel, fiberglass, stainless steel and woven mesh. These materials however are pretty tame for the pair. In order to challenge perceptions about death and the human condition, the artist duo are known to use human fat tissue, live animals and baby cadavers.
The latest installation is designed to illustrate the tension and changes between surrealism and realism said the artists. They explained, ‘he angel, a transcendent being, has become powerless, unable to carry out God’s will, or to help those who believe in its existence.’ in a statement on their website. The duo’s previous work titled ‘Old Persons Home’, also focused on the older generation.
The installation which looked suspiciously like world leaders, created in 2007 was made up of sculptures of geriatric old men. The models were placed in electric wheelchairs and left to bump into each other at random rather than being a static piece. Both their creations ‘Angel’ and ‘Old Persons Home’ have been displayed at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
